This week during our Monday schoolwide leadership assembly, our students learned ways they can practice to be open-minded. We learned that being open-minded is:
- understanding that people are different and do different things
- willing to experience new things
- sensitivity to other people's needs
- listening to others to understand
- showing empathy
- accepting other points of view
- trying to understand others
- knowing that not everyone thinks like us
- trying to make people around us feel included
- accepting opinions, traditions, customs and beliefs of others
Students shared how this year we have many new students to our school. We practice being open-minded by welcoming them, learning about who they are, and making sure they feel included. We encourage each of our families to discuss what does being open-minded look like at home or in your community. Think of family members that are open-minded and discuss what makes them show this learner profile attribute. This helps our young leaders begin to see and think of ways they can become open-minded.
Thank you families for choosing Las Palmas, we appreciate you!

Rethink & Redesign Update
I want to thank many of you for attending our district community events on Rethink & Redesign the past few weeks. The collective voice from our families, students, and staff in support of remaining an All-Girls school was present at each session. We will continue to remain an All-Girls school! Many of our parents shared great ideas on increasing our student enrollment. We will be meeting with parents that would like to be part of our student recruitment to increase enrollment. Thank you LPLS Families!

Open-Minded
Students are learning about ways to be Open-Minded, one of the 10 IB Learner Profile Attributes. You can reinforce this learning at home by talking with your child about how they can learn from other people to appreciate differences as well as listening to different opinions. Below is an activity that can be done as a family or with extended family/friends to learn about similarities and differences. There is also a link to an article about teaching your child to about different holidays and cultures.
